Introduction to Nature-based, Play-based Learning

This course will provide educators with awareness and knowledge of nature-based, play-based learning techniques to support whole child development and wellbeing. Educators will explore a variety of topics including: the foundations of nature-based learning, the layered benefits of nature play, place-based pedagogy, transformative social-emotional learning (TSEL), child-led inquiry, visible thinking techniques, teacher observation and documentation, along with mindfulness practices to support teacher well-being. Educators will gain practice with developmentally appropriate instructional techniques for integrating preschool learning foundations, school readiness, and evaluation with nature-based play.
