Introduction to Modern Art: Impressionism to World War II

After the decline of Impressionism, a wealth of European and American artists and movements start to appear not adhering to standard categories. In the 7th installment of our 9-part Art History series, we explore the paths of the post-Impressionists and uncover the origins of modern architecture, sculpture, painting, and design.
Among the Modern Art styles and movements discussed are:
- Art Nouveau
- Fauvism
- Expressionism
- Cubism
- Futurism
- De Stijl
- Dada
- New Objectivity
- Surrealism
- early movements of Abstraction
The stylistic and philosophical characteristic of each movement or individual are investigated and integrated into the broader framework of intellectual history.
