High School: Robotics with JavaScript

Get a crash course in the popular coding language JavaScript and then use it to write programs to make a robot interact with the world in specific ways.
This class offers an introduction to robotics, automation, and the challenges of programming in the real world. Students will get a crash course in the popular coding language JavaScript and then use it to write programs to make a robot interact with the world in specific ways. An optional low-cost robotics kit provides hands on experience, while an open source robotics programming IDE / simulator called “DDE” provides software experience.

Laura Ruival, B.A. in Communication
Software Engineer, Computer Science Instructor, Coding and Robotics Instructor
Laura Ruival is a software engineer with 15 years of full-time software development experience. She has worked for various companies around San Diego including a dot-com startup, an eLearning company, a casino, and a Fortune 500 fintech firm.
After taking a break from the corporate world to have children, Laura began teaching Coding and Robotics for Alpine Education Foundation, a non-profit organization that brings STEAM subjects to elementary schools in Alpine Union School District. In 2019 she also began teaching computer science courses for high school students with the Futures program at UC San Diego Division of Extended Studies. She also teaches coding camps for Sally Ride Science Academy. Laura is eager to pass on her knowledge and experience in the software industry and make coding accessible to every child.
In her spare time she enjoys playing Pickleball, yoga, hiking, camping and spending time with her husband and two children.
