Futures: Wi-Fi Technologies and Applications
EE-90007
Wi-Fi has become the mainstream technology for fixed and mobile operators, as well as the retail and hospitality industry in meeting business challenges. Wi-Fi networks can be quickly deployed in a plug-and-play fashion because virtually any user device can be connected.
This course describes the foundational principles of Wi-Fi, including the latest technologies and applications. It also presents practical issues in Wi-Fi network performance optimization, and key physical and access layer mechanisms. Challenging Wi-Fi deployments such as large-scale mesh networks, long-range point-to-point networks, unmanned aircrafts, drones and flying hotspots, naval sensors and sonobuoys, undersea environmental monitoring, communicating balloons, and location management systems will also be discussed.
What You Will Learn
Students in Futures: Wi-Fi Technologies and Applications will:
- Review the evolution of Wi-Fi and the differences between 802.11n, 802.11ac, 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6/6E)
- Understand the core modules and frequency bands in Wi-Fi
- Understand the Wi-Fi link adaptation, channel sensing mechanism, and multi-antenna capabilities
- Learn Wi-Fi security (Wi-Fi Protected Access) and power management protocols
- Evaluate techniques to enhance Wi-Fi performance for typical deployments in the home and enterprise
- Describe the Wi-Fi Alliance certification process
