Creating Equitable Learning Experiences through Reading Support and Culturally Responsive Pedagogy

EDUC-X424.96

Community Colleges throughout the state of California are required to be fully AB1705 compliant this year. What does this mean for our institutions, for our classrooms, and for our students? In this course we will become familiar with the changes that are taking place and how we can support students entering English Language Acquisition and transfer-level English courses. This class will help educators understand the various needs of their incoming students and design curriculum that supports the social and emotional dimensions of learning while building literacy and critical thinking skills. The course will include a specific focus on supports for developing academic reading skills. In addition, participants will explore external student support strategies that can help student performance within their classrooms as well as instructional strategies that provide a strong foundation for student learning.
