Building Equitable Learning Environments

EDUC-X426.55

What does equity look like in daily interactions with students? How do we create equitable learning environments where all aspects are equity informed? This course takes a holistic approach to developing and implementing a variety of equitable practices from small daily interactions to larger assignment re-envisioning. We will explore some of the current conversations connected to equity in higher education, including universal design for learning (UDL), inclusive teaching, social-emotional learning, alternative assessment practices, culturally responsive pedagogy, and trauma informed pedagogy. After exploring student data from your school sites, we will consider the intersections of each of these areas in creating equitable learning environments that are shaped by our individual teaching philosophies, distinct subject area goals, and the needs of your specific student populations.
