Overview of BI and Data Analysis

As the amount of data companies collect continues to grow at a rapid rate, the ability to effectively transform that data into actionable information has become paramount for business growth and success. Business intelligence (BI) and data analytics enables businesses to make better decisions, improve processes, discover efficiencies, support customers, and reduce costs.
In this course, students will learn the complete analytics cycle, from determining requirements to extracting and disseminating information. It will cover the process, technologies, applications, tools, and skills required to analyze data so that informed and timely decisions can be made.
Students will also be introduced to Artificial Intelligence (AI), its relationship with data analytics and its impact. Various aspects of AI will be covered including its background, benefits, risks and challenges, as well as its future and careers. The course will also encompass how to measure AI and simulate intelligence, AI components and sub-domains, AI categories, its tools and analytics.

Arshad Khan is an experienced analytics professional who has over 30 years of experience, including 17 years as a consultant in engineering, SAP and business intelligence. Currently, he is working as a consultant on the Self-Service Analytics (SSA) project at UCSF.
Mr. Khan has led numerous BI/Analytics projects, including a machine learning project as program manager. He led Tableau development at Juniper Networks, initiated the analytics program at ABB Digital, and was the BI Architect for the Navy project.
Mr. Khan has also worked for well-known Silicon Valley companies including Hitachi-America, Acuson, and LSI Logic. He has also consulted for Deloitte Consulting, PwC, Accenture, Chevron, Genentech, DaimlerChrysler, Polycom, PepsiCo, Home Depot as well as many other clients.
For over 20 years, Mr. Khan has been an adjunct instructor at UC Extensions (San Diego, Berkeley, and Santa Cruz), Golden Gate University and Santa Clara University. Mr. Khan has authored 15 books, including six on business intelligence, as well as Jumpstart Tableau.
