This final course project has been an interesting and reflective process. Throughout this program, I have learned so many skills, and I can honestly say I have put every single one of them to use both in an out of this program. I appreciated that the tasks were building on a tangible thing, and I felt they were very confidence-building for me. Before this course and this project, I would have struggled to get organized enough or work through the appropriate training to pull a solid course together. After working through the sections of this course, I feel I have sorted out all of the major course components as well as the logistics of creating something from scratch, and it has made me a better learner and teacher, and the experience has given me great perspective through the peer and instructor interaction.

This program has provided me the background and tools to develop a course, sequence the lessons to build upon students’ knowledge, how to evaluate their progress, and most importantly how to seek their input to incorporate their preferences, and identify current issues and resources to assist in an adult’s learning journey. The final courses assisted me with updating my resume and tailoring it for seeking adult teaching openings. I hope to soon start applying for openings and utilize the knowledge I gained through this program.

Throughout the course of this program, I have learned new things to implement in my classes to help my students grasp the content. Studying how different people learn has been eye-opening and extremely helpful. The UCSD Extension Teaching Adult Learners program has phenomenal teachers and I really appreciate the communication and feedback provided in each class. I have also enjoyed learning about my peers and their journey. I feel that this program has been invaluable for me and I am very thankful for that.

I’m very excited to have already put into practice many of the things I learned during this course.  We have also recently hired a national sales trainer. (I didn’t apply for the job because it is based on New Jersey and I can’t move until my daughter graduates from high school in 2024.)  Since he started a couple of months ago, he has relied on me and 1 other tenured rep to help get him up to speed on what we need and help him prioritize those needs. As a matter of fact, he asked for my feedback on a selling skills workshop he is preparing for our upcoming sales meeting and he LOVED all of my recommendations. All of which were techniques I learned during this course. So I’m very excited to see the things I’ve learned in action very soon!

I know do training full-time as I recently got a promotion and now I manage our Substation Operations technical training team.

Wow, what a great way to end the Certificate of Adult learning course series! I really appreciated the opportunity to take these courses and learn from them! When I first started this series, I was partially involved in education and as I progressed through the series, I was able to pivot full time into the Education Program lead and now into the Education Program Manager.
