
Learn the basics of robotics & build battle bots with Lego Mindstorms.
Students will build robots using Lego Mindstorms kit and in the process explore various sensors (light, ultrasonic etc.) and motor actions. Students will also learn how to code their robots to do various actions and build a app joystick for their battle bot. Robotics involve mathematics and physics concepts which will also be explored throughout the course.
What You Will Learn
Students in Ignite Student Interest in STEAM for Upper Elementary Educators (3-5) will:
- Recognize and use various sensors in Lego Mindstorms
- Use Gears and Motors to move a robot chassis
- Understand basic physics and mathematical concepts that go into building a movable robot
- Code using the EV3 and MIT App Inventor Environment

Muralidharan, Manju
Manju Muralidharan has a Master's Degree in Computer Science from Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago and a Bachelors degree in Computer Engineering from Anna University, India, She started her career as a Web Developer for Oracle Financial Services Software in Bangalore, India. After moving to the United Stated she worked as an Instructor at the IIT Computer Discovery After School programs in Chicago from 2013 to 2015. She combines her passion for teaching, love for technology and penchant for crafting to teach a variety of courses including Lego Mindstorms, Android App Design, Craft - Electronics, DIY Robots for Library NExT through UCSD Extension and as a volunteer & official vendor for the San Diego Public Libraries.
