
Learn about how kelp forests are being threatened and explore simple ways to help conserve them.
Have you ever wondered what lies beneath the kelp? What animals occupy the rainforests of the sea? In this course we will be exploring the ecosystem of kelp forests and all the unique creatures that call this habitat home. Through hands-on activities and an engaging take-home art project, we will discover all the mysteries kelp forests hold and simple ways that we can help to protect these amazing habitats.
What You Will Learn
Students in Elementary School: Exploring Kelp Forests will:
- Learn the definition of an ecosystem and what that means for a kelp forest
- Be able to differentiate between algae and plants, as well as identify the different structures on kelp
- Have a good understanding of main animals that occupy San Diego kelp forests, such as sea lions and sea urchins
- Understand a basic food web and how an endangered animal can affect an entire ecosystem.
