In this art historical survey, the first of several parts, students will be introduced to the Paleolithic cave paintings of Lascaux, sculptures of the ancient Sumerians, and the magnificent pyramids of Egypt.
The course delves into the painting, sculpture and architecture of the Prehistoric periods, the ancient Near East and Egypt. Emphasis will be placed on major works of art as well as the terminology of art and style. Aspects of function, patronage, symbolism and subject matter will also be covered. A perfect introductory class for those interested in Art History or travel!
Note: Fulfills 1 unit towards the Art History requirement for the Art and the Creative Process Certificate.
