About the Community Health Worker Program
Community Health Workers (CHWs) play vital roles in supporting and promoting the health of individuals, families, and communities. They do this by providing education, outreach, advocacy, and support as trusted members of their communities.
The Community Health Worker Certificate provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to serve as a vital link between healthcare providers and community members. Students will learn public health concepts, roles and responsibilities of community health workers, and will be trained in all core competencies required for work in this field. Certificate graduates will have the option of joining an apprenticeship program to practice on-the-job acquired skills.
This federal-grant supported certificate program seeks to train health workers and health support workers from underserved refugee and immigrant population of African, Afro-Caribbean, Asian and Middle Eastern backgrounds and American Indian communities. Applicants from these communities are preferred.
We're currently not accepting new students at this time. For questions related to the application, please contact J.W. Wiebe-Anderson, project manager, at jwiebeanderson@ucsd.edu. For certificate program information, please contact Kyle Wiskerchen, program manager, at chwcertificate@ucsd.edu.
