Bio
Byung K. Yi, Ph.D. was EVP & CTO of InterDigital until his retirement in 2018. As CTO of InterDigital, Dr. Yi was responsible for directing the development of advanced wireless and network technologies, advanced research on Robotics, advanced cybersecurity systems for the IoT systems, and the platform for advanced wireless communications.Prior to joining InterDigital in April of 2014, Dr. Yi served as Assistant Division Chief with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in charge of engineering, of polish division 2012 - 2014. Prior to his appointment at the FCC, Dr. Yi was Senior Exeutive Vice President at LG Electronics 2000 - 2012. In this role he headed the company’s North American R&D center. A former member of InterDigital’s Technology Advisory Council, Dr. Yi contributes more than 40 years of advanced wireless development experience, satellite system designs, and aerospace communication and computer designs.
Dr. Yi was awarded the prestigious CDMA Development Group (CDG) Industry Leadership award, he has been recognized by the National Engineer Week Foundation (NEW) for the “Outstanding Engineer” and inducted into the Hall of Fame by the School of Engineering and Applied Science of George Washington University.
Dr. Yi received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Yonsei University (Korea), his master’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan, and his doctoral degree in electrical engineering from George Washington University.
