Liangping Ma Ph.D.

Bio

Liangping Ma is an engineer with Qualcomm, where he is involved in R&D and standardization related to 5G and 6G, including real-time communication and non-terrestrial networks (NTN). He has been teaching 5G technologies at UC San Diego Extended Studies since 2019.

He was with InterDigital (2009–2019), where he contributed to 3GPP and Wi-Fi standards and video transmission technology. Prior to that, he worked at San Diego Research Center Inc. and Argon ST (acquired by Boeing), leading protocol design and the development of a modem for wireless sensor networks.

Liangping holds over 1,000 granted and pending patents worldwide and has authored/co-authored more than 50 journal and conference papers. He received his B.S. in Physics from Wuhan University, China, in 1998 and his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Delaware in 2004.
