Laura Fandino directs the public-facing science and sustainability programs for the University of California (UC) San Diego Division of Extended Studies. She is a scientist and lawyer by training, receiving a Ph.D. in Marine Biology from Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego and a J.D. from the University of Washington School of Law.
Fandino's scientific research primarily focused on the molecular ecology of bacteria associated with marine phytoplankton blooms. She has been published in the field of microbial ecology.
