Bio
A La Jolla native, Lucy has a B. A. in Education and a TESOL Certificate. She has spent time and tutored English in Mexico and France. Her travels in Asia, India, and the Middle East have made her aware of and sensitive to the challenges and nuances of English pronunciation and accuracy of expression faced by English language learners from different parts of the world. She worked with EFL students at Doyle, Bird Rock, and La Jolla Elementary schools in their remedial reading and speaking programs. After moving to New York, she taught English at New York Language Center for four years. Upon returning to San Diego in 2004, she worked at San Diego International Academy of English and at Southern States University as head teacher until 2013. Since December, 2013, she has been teaching at the English Langauge institute at UC San Diego Extension. Her classes have included various beginner, intermediate, and advanced English language classes that focus on pronunciation and fluency for conversation in business, academic, and social settings, oral presentations, grammar, reading, and listening comprehension. She speaks Spanish and French, and some Italian, Persian, and Arabic. As a foreign language student herself, she enjoys helping students become fluent and confident in speaking English.
