Joanna Esser is a Spanish and English as a Second or Other Language Instructor. At UCSD Extended Studies Joanna teaches Spanish for Communication II. Born and raised in Warsaw, Poland, she moved to the United States with her family in 9th grade and graduated from Santa Monica High School. Having transferred to UCLA from Santa Monica Community College, she graduated with a BA in Spanish and Hispanic Literature. She entered California State University in Los Angeles and earned her Master’s Degree in Teaching English as a Second Language in 2004, following a two-year adventure with teaching English in Asia. She began teaching Spanish and ESL in San Diego that same year, and she worked at several community colleges and adult schools in Southern California. She is currently living in Lemon Grove, CA, with her son, daughter, their dog Oreo, and their cat named Kot. Teaching and working with diverse communities of students of all ages is her passion. Her hobbies include hiking, kayaking, ocean swimming, gardening, cuddling with her pets, reading, creating art, cooking, traveling, and dancing salsa.
