Middle School: Makerspace VR: Virtual Reality Exploration & Practical Applications

A makerspace is a community space where people get together to learn how to think, make, and create. In this course, students will use the Sally Ride Science (SRS) Makerspace to explore the software and hardware used to create Virtual Reality (VR) worlds.  Students will investigate real-world VR applications, explore the components that enable VR headsets, and utilize VR to solve engineering challenges.

What you'll learn

  • Students will familiarize themselves with concepts and skills necessary to design Virtual Worlds
  • Students will be introduced to the digital and physical components used to create VR Headsets
  • Students will understand the taxonomy of VR-based applications
  • Students will be able to identify multiple solutions to a VR-based, engineering challenge
  • Students will strengthen their problem-solving and critical thinking skills
