Welcome to the captivating world of photography! In this class, we embark on an exciting journey through the lens, exploring the art and science of capturing moments in time. Photography is more than just clicking a button it's about telling stories expressing creativity and seeing the world in a unique way.
 
Throughout this course, young aspiring photographers will learn the fundamentals of photography from mastering the technical aspects of camera operation to unlocking the secrets of composition and lighting. Whether you're using a smartphone or a compact camera this class is designed to help you unleash your creative potential and develop your own unique style.
 
But photography is not just about taking pictures it's about seeing the world differently. We'll delve into the power absorbed observation learning how to find beauty in the ordinary and capture the extraordinary moments that surround us every day. Through hands on activities fun assignments and collaborative projects students will hone their skills build confidence through the lens and cultivate A deeper appreciation for the art of photography. So whether you're a complete beginner or have some experience already join us as we embark on this exciting journey of discovery and creativity get ready to capture memories tell stories and unleash your imagination through the magic of photography!

What you'll learn

  • Learn how to operate different types of cameras, including smartphones, point-and-shoot cameras.
  • Learn about composition rules such as the rule of thirds, leading lines, framing, and symmetry, and how to use them to enhance their images.
  • Learn how to use editing software to enhance their photos, adjust exposure, color balance, and apply creative effects while maintaining the integrity of the image.
  • Be encouraged to explore their creativity and develop their own unique style.
  • Learn how to use photography to convey emotions, tell stories, and communicate their perspective on the world around them.
  • Participate in group critiques where they can share their work, receive feedback from peers and instructors, and learn from each other's strengths and weaknesses.

Instructor: Camille Campion

Camille Campion
Dr. Camille Campion is an alumnae of the Communication Department at UC San Diego. Through her work with university-community partnerships, she has worked with 100s of young people from diverse backgrounds to make creative media. She believes strongly in the power of storytelling and media-making to advance learning and development in individuals and groups. Her doctoral research included co-producing videos with community groups to promote civic action and she continues to guide others to produce and share visual stories. She has taught Photovoices and Filmmaking at Sally Ride since 2018, creating classes that are interactive, hands-on, creative, collaborative and empower learners to take the lead their own learning journeys.
