Astronauts in Training: Explore the Solar System!

Students will act as astronauts in training by learning about the sun, moons, stars, planets and space travel. The goal of this course is to provide a basic understanding of what our solar system is, what makes up the solar system and where we fit in, including the tools we use to explore space. This course is intended for students in second through third grade.

What you'll learn

By the end of the course, students will:

  • Students will be able to identify structures of the solar system, describe the phases of the moon, recall the basic job of an astronaut, retell facts about the sun and moon.

Course Location: Wangenheim Middle School 9230 Gold Coast Dr, San Diego, CA 92126 In-person, full day program runs 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Lunchtime is from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Students must bring their own lunch each day.

Kimberley Beaver
Kimberley, who goes by her middle name Nichole, is a dedicated educator who graduated from San Diego State University with a degree in Liberal Studies and a minor in Child Development. She works in an after-school program and serves as a substitute teacher, while also leading the development and implementation of the Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program.
Outside of work, she enjoys reading and crafting, and treasures time with family. Married and a proud parent of two girls, she embraces a home filled with love—and a whole lot of animals.
