OBJECTIVES
Demonstrate basic comprehension of various professional practices in various laboratory operation and management topics, such as:

  • Safety and Bloodborne pathogens, Medical Error Prevention
  • HIPAA and Privacy.
  • Quality Assurance/Quality Management.
  • Laboratory information systems (LIS), patient electronic medical records, computer applications, interfaces with instrumentation and other information systems.
  • Laboratory Finance, CPT Coding & ICD-9 Coding.
  • Regulations/Licenses – State, CLIA, College of American Pathologists, The Joint Commission, proficiency testing, etc.
  • Lean and Six Sigma for the Laboratory
  • Resumes, Job Searches, Interviews.
  • Capstone project (for UC San Diego students only).
