Mead, or honey wine, is the world's oldest alcoholic beverage. Characterized by the use of honey as the primary fermentable sugar, mead has experienced a resurgence in popularity in recent years. This course will explore modern mead making practices from the basics to more advanced techniques, including any and all factors that contribute to creating world-class meads. Students will also get the opportunity to sample and discuss commercial meads and honey varietals from around the country.
It is highly recommended that students have at least a basic understanding of the fermentation process for beer, wine or mead. This course is intended for both home and professional brewers, wine makers, mead makers and any other fermentation hobbyist/professional that want to take their mead making skills to the next level.
