Integrative Play Therapy is a systematic integration of various play therapy theories and techniques used in assessment, case
conceptualization, and treatment of children and adolescents. This approach emphasizes that integrating multiple theories provide clinicians greater effectiveness at addressing a range of multi-layered presenting problems. Students will learn how to weave play therapy theories with intention and flexibility from concepts taught in Play Therapy Dimensions Model: A Decision-Making Guide for Integrative Play Therapists by Lorri Yasenik and Ken Gardner (2012). Selected video clips and facilitated experiential exercises will give students a deeper understanding of Integrative Play Therapy principles and their application.

While the Department of Psychiatry is aware of the research on the efficacy of play therapy*, it cannot specifically endorse each play therapy intervention included in each class in the play therapy certificate program.
