Participants in this course will have completed a training program related to the introduction of a new music program within their schools. Participants will move through the sequence of this course as they incorporate modern band into the school curriculum. This course is designed to ensure fidelity to and reinforcement of the best practices recommended by the training program. This course is designed as a professional development opportunity for music teachers to broaden and deepen their understanding of the role of music in the lives of their students, and how to best connect real-world music appreciation with traditional classroom instruction. Teachers will develop practical strategies for introducing modern band, and engaging students in hands-on music lessons. Teachers will explore and discover instructional tools for both educators and students to capture and reflect upon their current understandings of music and modern youth elective studies. Through further discovery, reflection, and discussion of best practices, teachers will gain tangible tools for expanding their teaching to include modern band.
