Suzanne Varco


Suzanne R. Varco is the managing partner of Opper & Varco LLP in San Diego, California. Ms. Varco’s practice emphasizes representing private interests and public entities in various brownfield redevelopment matters. She provides representation in areas of CEQA compliance and litigation. In addition, Ms. Varco has extensive experience in hazardous waste cleanup, transactional due diligence involving environmental issues, environmental permitting and compliance, underground storage tank issues and environmental cost recovery and grant funding. She also works extensively with local, state and federal regulatory agencies.

Ms. Varco received her undergraduate degree from Whitman College and her law degree from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1992, where she was a member of the National Moot Court team and a member of the Moot Court Board. She has been admitted to practice law in the courts of California and in the United States District Courts for the Southern, Central, Eastern and Northern Districts of California. Ms. Varco is also admitted to practice in the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

She frequently speaks to professional organizations about environmental matters, she is a member of the Environmental Law Sections of the California Bar Association and San Diego County Bar Association, as well as serving as past-president of the San Diego Environmental Professionals and past-chairperson of the County of San Diego Department of Environmental Health Site Assessment and Mitigation Division Steering Committee. Ms. Varco is a member of the Urban Land Institute and currently serves as the president of the San Diego Chapter of Lambda Alpha International (a land economics society) and the president of the Horton Plaza Theatres Foundation.
