This course covers the requirements for the establishment, maintenance, and monitoring of a respiratory protection program. Course topics include terminology, OSHA Respiratory Protection Standards, NIOSH certification, respiratory protection programs, and medical evaluation requirements. Program highlights include workshops on respirator selection, qualitative and quantitative fit testing, and the use of respiratory protection and support equipment. Upon course completion students will have the ability to identify and describe the elements of a respiratory protection program, the proper selection, use, and inspection of respiratory protection, protection factors, and evaluate compliance with OSHA Standards.
Note: It is highly recommended to complete the OSHA 521 course prior to this course.
Note:The live online classes are available to anyone who lives or works in OSHA Region IX (Arizona, California, Guam, Hawaii, Nevada, Pacific Territories and American Samoa). Additionally, if you are a current Outreach Trainer with UCSD, regardless of your residence, you are still eligible to attend a Trainer Update Course (OSHA 502, OSHA 503, OSHA 5402).

Brian is a certified industrial hygienist. His career of hazard evaluation, control and management spans a variety of industries including shore-based naval installations, aerospace manufacturing, construction, power generation and natural gas distribution. He currently is an advisor for safety and emergency services at Sempra Energy Utilities.
