Elementary Accounting I

Learn the basics in financial accounting theory and practice. Topics include: recording, analyzing and summarizing procedures used to prepare balance sheets and income statements such as payroll, special journals, cash control, receivables and payables, inventory and depreciation.

Format: This course is offered in an online asynchronous format. There are no set meeting times, however, students follow a weekly schedule and there will be deadlines to meet in terms of course requirements. This course cannot be completed at an accelerated rate. UCSD Extended Studies operates in Pacific Standard Time and therefore any deadline is considered 11:59 p.m. Pacific Standard Time. 

Program courses are taught by subject matter experts and experienced faculty, offering a current and relevant curriculum to meet the CPA Evolution Exam 2024 requirements. Instructor: Julie Hansen

Julie Hansen

Julie teaches Financial and Managerial accounting and Computer Information Systems.  For over 14 years she has been teaching at several local San Diego colleges/universities, including San Diego City College, Mesa College, Miramar College, MiraCosta College, Grossmont College and San Diego State University.
 
She is a passionate educator and is a leader in utilizing digital tools in her classroom and online courses and enjoys exploring new technology to enhance the student experience.  She is certified in Blackboard and Canvas as well the IC3 certification for digital literacy in Microsoft products.
 
Graduating with a B.A. and M.B.A from Michigan State University, she worked for Arthur Andersen in their Business Consulting Group advising clients on the acquisition and implementation of the latest accounting information systems.  Utilizing her technology and project management skills, she moved on to become a product manager for SAP – a German-based ERP company.  Her professional career has taken her all over America as well as internationally several times to Germany, Norway, Hong Kong, Australia.
 
When she’s not teaching or preparing to teach, she enjoys doing CrossFit, hiking, tennis and watching her two soccer goalie sons on the field.  In the summer she is planning to tour of as many soccer stadiums in Europe as possible!
