Featured Speaker: Professor James Nieh
All bees, including honey bees, are important to the health of our ecosystems and to some of our most important agricultural crops. Bees face many challenges, including pesticides. What can we do to help them? This lecture will review some of the latest approaches that researchers are taking and will talk about work that focuses on using red-light therapy and a balanced omega 3/6 fatty-acid diet to help bees exposed to pesticides.
Presenter Biography
Presenter: James Nieh was born in Taiwan and grew up in Southern California. He received his BA at Harvard and his PhD from Cornell University. In 2000, he joined the faculty in the Division of Biological Sciences at UC San Diego, where he is a Professor in the Section of Ecology, Behavior, and Evolution. Nieh’s interests focus on bee communication, cognition, and health. His lab studies natural and man-made stressors of many types of social bees.
