Dr. Keehner attended Yale University for her undergraduate degree in Biology with an emphasis in molecular cellular and developmental biology, she received her MD from Tulane University School of Medicine, then continued at Boston Medical Center for her internship and residency in internal medicine. She is currently in her third year of infectious disease fellowship at University of California at San Diego. Prior to matriculating at medical school, Dr. Keehner spent three years working in public health at the United States Environmental Protection Agency, where she spent time analyzing health risks from contaminants in drinking water and communicating with the public about those risks.
At UCSD Dr. Keehner is currently a third-year infectious disease fellow, she also a member of the UCSD hospital Infection Prevention and Clinical Epidemiology committee, The Antimicrobial Stewardship committee and the committee to improve Beta Lactam Prescribing. Her clinical work includes HIV primary care at the Owen Clinic and working on the inpatient infectious disease consult service.
Dr. Keehner is passionate about infection prevention and hospital epidemiology and providing a safe work environment for staff as well as patients. she has published on the efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccines at preventing acquisition of COVID-19 in healthcare workers and her current research focusses on COVID-19 in vaccinated individuals. Additionally, she is a microbiology lab leader for the medical school and works periodically as a teaching “coach” for the medical students on the inpatient consult service.
