Dr. Wooten attended Stanford University for her undergraduate studies in Human Biology. She received her MD, MS joint degree from the UCSF-UC Berkeley Joint Medical Program, and then continued on at UCSF for her Internal Medicine residency. She completed her Infectious Diseases fellowship at Harbor UCLA before joining the faculty at UCSD in the division of Infectious Disease and Global Public Health (ID/GPH) in 2014.
At UCSD, Dr. Wooten is currently an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine in the division of ID/GPH. She also serves as the Associate Program Director for the Infectious Diseases Fellowship Training Program. Her clinical work includes HIV primary care at the Owen Clinic and consultative services in the ID clinic at Hillcrest. She attends on the inpatient ID consult services at Hillcrest and Jacobs as well as on the inpatient HIV Medicine consult service at Hillcrest.
Dr. Wooten is passionate about medical education and mentorship across the spectrum of learners (from medical students to residents to fellows). She serves at the Director of Education in the Owen Clinic and has created a self-directed HIV curriculum for medical students, residents, and fellows. She directs the ID fellow core didactic curriculum and has implemented innovative educational strategies including retrieval practice, flipped classroom, and gamification. Dr. Wooten was appointed the Division Vice Chief of Mentoring. In this role, she created a career mentoring and peer-to-peer mentoring program for ID fellows and an early career faculty mentoring program for junior faculty in the ID/GPH division.
