Imagine our Osher performance space as a
nineteenth century London club! Our “club”
will be set up to allow anyone to read and perform
a role in Nell Benjamin’s 2013 satirical farce,
The Explorers Club. All are invited to participate,
as audience, performers, or both, in this organized,
but spontaneous, group reading as part of Theater
World. There will be marked scripts and simple
(sanitized) costumes supplied for each character
as participants take turns reading. This type of
program was used in the past at Osher to great
success with The Misanthrope, Bad Jews, and The
Crucible directed by veteran Theater World actor and
director, Katie Keller. No experience nor preparation
is necessary for the participants! The ten roles in
this funny, insightful play include: the adventurous
Phyllida, seeking to be the first female member
of the Explorers Club ;any number of traditionally
mustachioed existing members of the Club; an urban
“tribesperson” who makes wild cocktails! All simple
costumes and props will be provided.
