is the fourth most populous country and
home to the world’s largest Muslim population.
After nearly a decade of rule by President Joko
Widodo (Jokowi), former military General Prabowo
Subianto is likely to take over the executive after a
momentous election on February 14. Subianto was
a controversial figure under the former authoritarian
President Suharto and his impending rule of this
newly democratic nation, with Jokowi’s son as his
vice president, has resurrected ghosts from the past
and raised many questions about the future direction
of the nation’s politics.
