Featured Speaker: Oleksandra “Sasha” Johnson, PhD
This lecture, presented by the elder-fraud coordinator at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in San Diego, will discuss the investigation and prosecution of elder-fraud cases in federal court. It will describe the various methods of elder abuse used by criminals, including mail, computer, phone, TV/radio and in person. It will provide an overview of the types of financial-fraud schemes currently trending in Southern California, such as grandparent scams, romance scams and investment scams. Finally, it will discuss how to avoid financial abuse.
Presenter Biography
Oleksandra “Sasha” Johnson, an Assistant United States Attorney, has been with the U.S. Department of Justice since 2016 and is currently assigned to the Major Fraud and Public Corruption Section in the Southern District of California. She supervises investigations and litigates complex fraud matters. Prior to becoming a federal prosecutor, she worked as a staff attorney at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California from 2009 to 2016. She received an M.A. from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and her law degree from the University of San Diego School of Law.
