PRESIDENT’S COLUMN - Winter 2020
As I watch the beautiful leaves fall from the trees, I realize winter is coming and a new group of “snowbirds” will be arriving. Welcome to another wonderful quarter at Osher. You have chosen the perfect place to enjoy all that the San Diego area has to offer. Our Open House on Saturday, January 4, at 9:30 a.m. gives us an opportunity to invite our friends, neighbors and family to see just what goes on at Osher. So be sure to come and bring someone who will benefit from learning about us. Since we video tape so many of our classes we have upgraded our video equipment to improve our video library. In addition, the new system will make it easier for our videographer Jorge to navigate and for you to enjoy. The new semester features an in-depth study of Japan, from its history to economics to culture and art. If that is not your cup of tea, there are classes featuring the music from the African Diaspora, U.S. and the Holocaust, or Music and War, or the complexities of ocean-atmosphere interactions to name a few. If you don’t find something one day try another. And be sure to join us on field trips on January 25, like Know Your Neighborhood in Burlingame, a small, charming place, or trek with us to Torrey Pines State Park on February 15 for an in-depth view of the flora and fauna that have lived there for hundreds of years. On March 7 we visit the San Diego Museum of Art to learn about Eastern influences on Western art. The pages that follow show you the many activities that our members enjoyed last semester, and we are sure to have great times together as we visit new and interesting places. Sign up early and often! 2020 will be in exciting and interesting year for us all. I look forward to sharing it with all of you.
