This course covers OSHA General Industry Standards and other consensus and proprietary standards that relate to the use of hazardous materials. Course topics include flammable and combustible liquids, compressed gases, LP-gases, and cryogenic liquids. Related processes such as spraying and dipping, and use of electrical equipment in hazardous locations are also discussed. Upon course completion students will have the ability to assess compliance with OSHA hazardous materials standards, determine hazardous (classified) locations, and proper moving, storing, and handling of hazardous materials.
Note:The live online classes are available to anyone who lives or works in OSHA Region IX (Arizona, California, Guam, Hawaii, Nevada, Pacific Territories and American Samoa). Additionally, if you are a current Outreach Trainer with UCSD, regardless of your residence, you are still eligible to attend a Trainer Update Course (OSHA 502, OSHA 503, OSHA 5402).

Jeff Beeler has been with the UC San Diego OSHA Training Institute Education Center for over 15 years. Jeff's career includes 32 years in the fire service, retiring as a Captain at the La Mesa Fire Departmen and owner/president of JB Safety Services, Inc. (a safety training and services company) for nine years. Past involvements include adjunct faculty for fire science at Miramar College, a hazardous materials instructor for the California Specialized Training Institute, rescue team manager for a FEMA Urban Search and Rescue team and various positions in the construction field.
