Featured Speaker: Emily Carlton, MPP
The annual United Nations Climate Conference (COP 27) was held in Egypt in November 2022, when delegates from 200 Countries gathered to review the state of climate change. Emily Carlton attended the Conference as a member of the delegation from UCSD’s School of Global Policy and Strategy. The focus of the conference was climate justice and the “loss and damage” issue for the countries suffering the impact of climate change. This lecture will discuss what agreements were reached at the conference and what was left out. She will also discuss the prospects for COP 28 and how the conferences fit into the broader picture of managing and mitigating climate change.
Presenter Biography
Emily Carlton is Research Associate for the Deep Decarbonization Initiative at UCSD’s School of Global Policy and Strategy (GPS). She received her BA from UC Berkeley and her MPP from GPS, with dual concentrations on environmental policy and programs and a regional focus on Latin America. Her research focuses on how to rapidly eliminate warming emissions from key sectors such as aviation, ground transportation, and electric power.
