Stress, sedentary lifestyle, exposure to toxic
substances such as smoking and excess alcohol
intake and the typical Western diet, animal-product-
based, salted, sweetened and highly processed,
together play a significant role in the increasing
prevalence of chronic disease i.e. obesity, type 2
diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, end-
stage kidney disease, cognitive impairment/dementia
and cancer. This lecture will present the supporting
medical evidence for this statement and the lifestyle
interventions that can help move us away from
chronic disease toward wellness and improved
health.
