Foundations of Statistics and Research for Allied Health Professionals
FPM-X407.26
This course introduces the essential concepts of statistics and research methods in a way that is approachable and relevant to students entering the allied health professions. Designed for those with little or no prior experience in statistics, the course emphasizes understanding over calculation, using real-world examples from healthcare to bring statistical ideas to life. Students will explore how health research is conducted, how to interpret basic data, and how to think critically about evidence used in clinical practice. Topics include types of data, descriptive statistics, understanding averages and variability, basic probability, research study designs, and interpreting graphs and tables. By the end of the course, students will be better prepared to read health research, understand the role of statistics in healthcare decision-making, and engage in evidence-based practice.
