Learn the role historic preservation plays as a component of the urban planning and development process at the local, state and national levels. Explore the important milestones in historic preservation and urban planning history; identify historic and contemporary styles of American architecture; survey established historical research methods and documentation programs; review benefits and incentive programs for historic preservation; study the adaptive reuse of historic properties and design review for historic preservation projects; and discuss issues encountered when selecting and working with a historic preservation consultant and municipal planners.
