This course is designed for ESL speakers who are familiar with the English sound system and their own pronunciation problems.
Expand your skills in correctly applying English patterns of:
- stress
- intonation
- linking
- reductions
Pronunciation of problematic sounds will also be integrated into class exercises and activities.
Note: "Pronunciation and Fluency" (LING-40076), or the equivalent, is a recommended prerequisite for this course.

A La Jolla native, Lucy has a B. A. in Education and a TESOL Certificate. She has spent time and tutored English in Mexico and France. Her travels in Asia, India, and the Middle East have made her aware of and sensitive to the challenges and nuances of English pronunciation and accuracy of expression faced by English language learners from different parts of the world. She worked with EFL students at Doyle, Bird Rock, and La Jolla Elementary schools in their remedial reading and speaking programs. After moving to New York, she taught English at New York Language Center for four years.
